Am very glad that I don't live in Gisboune. Was watching the news tonight and the top story was about the tidal wave that was meant to hit Gisbourne this morning and which never happened.
There was a quake in Tonga at 3am and then Hawaii sent out a tidal wave warning for NZ and the Sth Pacific to all the international media. All good except that the NZ civil defence decided 15 minutes after the quake that there wasn't going to be any tidal wave at all but also decided that it would apparently make more sense to not actually tell anyone that there wasn't any disaster coming and instead sit back, highly amused no doubt, and watch as everyone in Gisbourne freaked out and ran for the hills after hearing about it from various international news shows. First I even heard about the whole debacle was on One news tonight and had I been living in Gisbourne would have had serious problems since I didn't actually get up until 10.30 and that was only to feed the animals and then I went back to bed. So now the civil defence dept is having to try and come up with reasons why they didn't tell anyone there was no tsunami coming.
May 17th should be interesting since NZ and a whole bunch of other countries are doing a drill for what to do if a tsunami actually hits.
Babysat Nickys kids yesterday, all good except that Matthew who's 6 was convinced that if he just kept on trying he'd be able to beat up Daniel who's 10. Given that Daniel's 4 yrs older as well as bigger and stronger this didn't happen (funny that) and Matthew spent a good while alternating screaming his head off at his brother and trying to beat him up while Annie who's 8 joined in on whichever side she felt like, usually Matthews.
Am now heading back into the lounge since it's freezing in here
